On Saturday October 4th, prior to the New York Cosmos hosting the Indy Eleven, a small group of Cosmos Season ticket holders were allowed to be present for a Question & Answer session with NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson and Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover. Moderating the Q&A session was Cosmos TV’s own Michell Gearity.
The Q&A was not exactly an open Q&A where there was an interaction with the crowd in attendance. As the Cosmos season ticket holders entered the room, they were asked to fill out index cards with questions that they had for Stover & Peterson and asked to give them to a Cosmos representative who would then parse through the population of questions and had selected ones to Ms. Gearrity.
For me, its not the best form for a Q&A as this just doesn’t allow for a free interaction with the crowd. Further it allows the Cosmos representative to filter through the questions and potentially stay away from controversial questions that may not have been to Peterson’s or Stover’s liking. Nevertheless, it was understood that there was only a limited amount of time for the session (3o minutes) as there was a Cosmos match to be played right after the Q&A so this format allowed for a timely and organized finish.
The Q&A started by both Stover & Peterson giving a status on their respective organizations, Stover on the Cosmos, Peterson on the NASL. From there questions were posed to the appropriate person with topics ranging from the Belmont Stadium, NASL league expansion, Cosmos player recruitment, Cosmos academies, NASL/MLS Player Loans and many more questions. They managed to answer a lot of questions in thirty minutes so make sure to listen to them all.
Below is a link that will give you audio of the Q&A. Feel free to listen and give me your thoughts. Did you find any of the info insightful? Should they have these more often? What questions were missed? Let me know your thoughts below in the comments section!
