Connor Lade Back With Cosmos For This Weekend

After making some waves in the loan area this weekend, the New York Red Bulls have loaned Connor Lade back to the New York Cosmos. This was confirmed Friday by the Cosmos during their last workout leading up to this weekend’s match.

Lade was recalled by the Red Bulls on Tuesday so that they could use him in the CONCACAF Champions League match against the Montreal Impact. The Red Bulls lineup had been decreased in numbers due to injuries. On Wednesday during their match against Montreal, Lade was issued two yellow cards and thus exited the match with a red card. As a result, he will not be available for the Red Bulls next Champions League match. This has worked to the Cosmos advantage as he will now travel with the team to Carolina for this weekend’s match against the Railhawks. As for the rest of the season, a verbal agreement remains to have him stay with the Cosmos.

Lade expressed his thoughts after the team’s final workout before heading to Carolina:

“I’m really excited to be back with the team. I wasn’t away that long so it’s easy coming back and transitioning back in with the guys. I’m anxious to keep going with what we started. I’m glad I didn’t have to miss too much time and that I didn’t miss any games. I’m looking forward to this weekend and continuing to build on what we’ve done the past couple of games and get some more wins.”

In other loaned player news, the Cosmos have confirmed the Jimmy Ockford (on loan from the Seattle Sounders) and Danny Mwanga (on loan from the Colorado Rapids) will indeed remain with the Cosmos for the remainder of the season as they opportunity for MLS to call them back has now passed. Ockford has been a valuable option defensively for the Cosmos this season. Likewise, Mwanga has become an integral part of coach Savarse’s offense this season already as he has alleviated the pressure put on Mads Stokkelien and Sebastian Guenzatti. The impact has been noticeable as the Cosmos goals totals have increased over the course of the last four matches.

The Cosmos take on the Carolina Railhawks this Saturday at 7:30pm in Carolina. Viewing parties will be held both at Prost Grill & Garten in Garden City, NY and at Legends Bar in Manhattan.

Jimmy Ockford will stay with the Cosmos for the remainder of the season.

  1. Very good news for the Cosmos. Knowing that they basically have their roster set for the rest of the season. With consecutive week home victories in the last two matches and scoring a combined 5 goals in doing so lifts them to 35 overall points. 8 ahead of the next club ptutting them in a Command position on the table to take the top overall Championship round spot.
Coming down the stretch are 6 points behind Fall table top spot.

  2. Hey there Steve – I like where they are in the combined table but this team honestly wants to make a run at the fall title. Gio has expressed it and to be honest, they have the talent to do so and they are starting to gel together as well. With Minnesota playing San Antonio tomorrow night – I am rooting for them to tie. A win for us would gain two points on both of them and put us only four points out with seven games left. Two of those games are against San Antonio and Minnesota. its possible!

    • Your right they have really gelled over the last few games. After a couple of draws the two wins at home followed breaking out a bit in getting 2 then 3 goals. Only 6 points behind the Scorpians with about 7 matches left.
Winning the fall compared to being one of the overall spots gives them a home match
