Noselli out for remainder of the season, Paulo Mendes on loan.
By Cesar Trelles – 7/31/14
On Thursday afternoon, New York Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese announced that striker Alessandro Noselli would not be back with the club for the remainder of the fall season due to his desire to remain with his family back home. Savarese added that the decision was made by Noselli to part ways with the team for this season.
The announcement comes almost a year to the day that Noselli capped the Cosmos return to soccer with a game winning goal in injury time on August 3, 2013 against the Fort Lauderdale Stikers.
Head coach Savarese did confirm that the possibility of his return in 2015 remains, but the team would have to evaluate things in the future,
Noselli’s roster spot occupies one of the seven international player roster spots and Savarese did confirm that the club would actively look to fill that spot. His expectation is that they would fill that spot in the near future.
When asked if the team was interested in signing Brazilian star Ronaldihno, Savarese chuckled and responded “Who wouldn’t be?”
“He is an extraordinary player who can bring so much to the United States. For us he would be an interesting player for us but we will have to see if he is within our reach at the moment. But we do understand that he had a lot of options and opportunities as well.”
In addition to the Noselli announcement, Savarese also took the time to mention that Paulo Mendes would be placed on loan by the Cosmos. A formal announcement with details will be release later in Thursday.
As for this Saturday’s match, head coach Savarese did mention that Roversio was still questionable for this weekend. He did confirm that Marcos Senna and Hans Denissen will be on the 18 man roster but evaluation still needs to be done with respect on whether or not they will both start.
The Cosmos square off against the Carolina Railhawks at home, this Saturday at 7:00pm in week 4 of the fall NASL season.
