Fresh off of the their 1-0 victory against the Atlanta Silverbacks last Sunday, the New York Cosmos are heading into Edmonton with a lot of momentum on Saturday for their first road game of the season. The Cosmos will need all of that momentum because FC Edmonton have one claim that no other NASL team can make against the NY Cosmos – they are the one team that the Cosmos could not beat in 2013.
Playing to 2 draws in 2013 the Cosmos know very well the Edmonton’s defense will be out to give them more fits this Saturday. Not only is their defense going to come strong again, but FC Edmonton added 9 players to their roster during the off season. In 2013 FC Edmonton led the league with fewest goals scored against when you factored in both the complete spring and fall season. Edmonton is a scrappy team and one that prides itself on defense. The Cosmos bolstered their offense in the off season by signing Mads Stokkelien and Hans Denissen. Also with Jemal Johnson back and 100% from injury the Cosmos do have plenty of options up front. Will this be enough to score on and get past FC Edmonton?
In a short season such as the spring, it is important to continue your winning ways as they aren’t a lot of weeks to make points back. This week’s match is essential to both team as they search for the spring NASL Crown!
Here is a preview of this Saturday’s match from Sebastian Guenzatti, Diomar Diaz and Alecko Eskadarian as told to Cosmos TV:
