As we have always said since day one, The Cross Island Crew is committed to spreading awareness for the New York Cosmos in Long Island. However our efforts extend to soccer in general as well. I recently met with David Witchard, the founder of First Touch magazine over a recent Arsenal Champions league match. While there wasn’t much Arsenal football to talk about on this day, we did find that both of our objectives and motivations are the same -> to spread the word of soccer to the best of our ability.
His free publication, First Touch Magazine, has been in circulation for over 20 years. It has always been the source for soccer fans in New York City to find out where they can catch soccer matches at a bar in New York City as several soccer bars in NYC take out detailed ads in his newspaper. With a firm foothold already in NYC, David was looking to expand into Long Island. It was my pleasure to volunteer the Cross Island Crew not only to help him in his venture but also to get our message out to fans.
Therefore we are happy to report that last week we included our first article in First Touch bringing NYC and Long Island the latest in NY Cosmos. You can see this week’s article here. While you are there, take a look at the iPhone app. It’s a very nice tool to have on your phone as it literally serves as a soccer bar map that will tell you the soccer bar nearest you if you are in a bind and have to catch a match. The app is always growing so if you don’t see a bar on there that should be included, drop them a line and let them know of it.
Going forward we plan on being in First Touch every week with material that wont’t be included on here.
Thanks for the opportunity First Touch!
