For fans of the New York Cosmos, concerns of going into the season with only one signed goalie can be put to rest now. The team announced on Wednesday morning the signing of 24 year old goal tender Kyle Zobeck. Zobeck was drafted in the 2013 MLS draft by FC Dallas. Given Zobeck’s limited playing time it is likely that he will serve as a back up to Jimmy Maurer.

Former FC Dallas goalkeeper adds to team’s depth at position
NEW YORK (March 26, 2014) – The New York Cosmos announced today that goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck has signed a contract with the team. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are pleased to bring Kyle into the squad,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said. “He is a talented prospect that will provide competition and strengthen our depth at goalkeeper.”
Zobeck, 24, trialed with the club during its preseason trip to Dubai and most recently played for FC Dallas.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to making an impact with the team,” Zobeck said. “This is a club with so much history, especially coming off a championship in 2013, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
The Coralville, Iowa native played Division 1 soccer at Valparaiso University and was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year in his junior season. He was selected in the second round (26th overall) of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft by FC Dallas following his senior season.
