As part of the group’s objectives to help the Cosmos grow their presence in Long Island, the Cross Island Crew took the time this past weekend to attend a youth soccer tournament along with staff and players from the New York Cosmos.
The West Islip Youth Soccer Club hosted an indoor soccer tournament for ages 7 thruough 14 on Saturday and Sunday and those in attendance had a chance to not only learn about the NY Cosmos and their upcoming season ticket plans but also meet and greet players from the 2013 NASL Championship team. In attendance on Saturday were team captain and Long Island native Carlos Mendes as well as fan favorite Danny Szetela. On Sunday Jimmy Nealis and Hunter Gorskie made appearances much to the delight of the young soccer players taking part in the tournament.
Cross Island Crew member Zach said “It was a great opportunity to show that the Cross Island Crew is committed to helping the Cosmos expand their fan base in Long Island. Plus who doesn’t like indoor soccer? It was awesome to see over 100 teams participate in the tournament and have the Cosmos there supporting them”.
As was the case in 2013 The New York Cosmos took great pride in having a presence in the community as was evidenced by their many appearances through last season. Some of those included several youth soccer clinics, blood drives and autograph signings to name a few. Expect many more appearances by the team in your neighborhood in 2014 and if your neighborhood happens to be in Long Island, expect the Cross Island Crew to be out there as well!
