As some of you might know in the past I have profiled Cosmos players in an effort to introduce them to the fan base in case they have not become familiar with the entire roster. Additionally, when one of the team members has a birthday, I’ve taken to my blog to announced that as well. Today we get a good ‘ole two for one combo, meet and say Happy Birthday To Stefan Dimitrov!
#17 Stefan Dimitrov
Position – Attacker
Previous Club – Ft. Lauderdale Strikers
While Stefan was born in Bulgaria, he has called himself a New Yorker for some time now. He attended college at Concordia University and played for their soccer team from 2006-2008. While there, he was named 2008 East Coast Conference Offensive Player of theYear (NCAA Division II).
Stefan would spend some time in the MLS after college playing for the Chicago Fire in 2009. The New York Cosmos entered his life in 2011 when he signed with the U-23 division of the Cosmos. Stefan also was part of the starting lineup that faced off against Manchester United in the Paul Scholes testimonial match against Man U in 2011. Finally in 2013, he signed on as one of the first players for the Cosmos as part of their official “reboot” era. During the spring 2013 season, Dimitrov would play for the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers on loan from the Cosmos. He managed to play 495 minutes for them during the spring season. As a true Cosmos player would have it, he did not score any goals during his time with the Strikers!
On and off the field Dimitrov, aids the Cosmos with his knowledge of 5 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Bulgarian) as this can only help when trying to communicate with the Cosmos diverse ethnic roster. Now in Fall season, Dimitrov still has not scored any goals but he has been an integral part of the Cosmos offense so far this year particularly in the last few games where the Cosmos have mastered the art of pushing the ball up field and create scoring opportunities. Just this past Saturday in the match against Minnesota United, Dimitrov was credited with the assist on the goal scored by Paulo Mendes. He has also racked up the minutes so far this year as he has accumulated 546 minutes through October 5th’s game against Minnesota.
Happy Birthday to Stefan Dimitrov!
